Spider-Man Movies Ranked
All nine Spider-Man movies ranked from worst to best.

9. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
After the surprise hit of the 2012 remake, Sony went on to make a sequel titled 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2.' This sequel is the reason why every scheduled sequel, prequel and spin-offs got canceled. About seven writers were attached to the project and it shows. The directing is terrible, the writing is atrocious, the editing is as sloppy as can be, the villains are an embarrassment to this movie, and the performances are cringy.
Jamie Foxx’s Electro is laughable. His character is one of the many aspects that are wrong in this 2 hr and 21 Mins movie. The character of Green Goblin deserves better than this, and Rhino…well - you know what, how about we just not talk about that atrocity.
There are so many storylines that are crammed into the movie that there is no main focus here at all. It’s a bunch of action, vivid colors, romantic drama, storylines, and chaos all happening at once.
8. Spider-Man 3 (2007)
'Spider-Man 3' is considered by many to be the worst of the Spider-Man Trilogy, and it makes sense. Sam Rami still shares his unique creativity in the first act, but what destroys this installment is the major studio interference situation. Sony Pictures pushed Rami to add new characters, different subplots, and villains, which is what makes this third installment a failure.
The first act is decent, giving fans what they’ve enjoyed from the previous. Thomas Haden Church, as The Sandman, is really good. But once the second act hits, most of the potential goes down the drain. Venom’s appearance is neither wanted nor handled properly. Emo Parker is laughably atrocious, and the dialogue continues to get cringier as it goes. Topher Grace’s performance as Eddie Brock is an embarrassment. Peter Parker’s personality becomes childish, the subplots are crammed into the movie and it’s completely unnecessary.
At times it even feels as if you’re not watching a Spider-man movie, it comes off as unprofessional on the crew’s part.
7. The Amazing Spider-man (2012)
After Sony Pictures' conundrum with Sam Rami on (the canceled project) Spider-Man 4, the studio decided to move on and reboot Spider-Man. With a new actor portraying the web slinger as well as new writers behind the scenes, the character of Spider-Man was reborn.
'The Amazing Spider-Man' may not have been what fans wanted, but given how low the expectations for the reboot were, the movie turned out to be a decent superhero origin story for the next generation. Andrew Garfield gave audiences a new look at Peter Parker/Spider-Man, offering an original style and likeness to the character. The filmmakers remained true to their word about creating a new story revolving around Spider-Man that hadn’t been depicted before.
The second act loses itself with the high school romance subplot. It focuses on Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy more than it should. If we’re to compare this movie to the original, ‘Spider-Man (2002) is a better movie. There is a certain spark that is missing in this reboot that throws it off a tiny bit.
It’s not a perfect reboot, but it still is a very entertaining blockbuster that got fans wanting to see more from this new depiction.
6. Spider-Man (2002)
The first Spider-Man movie from director Sam Rami, was and still remains a tremendous success. How they brought Spider-Man to life and recreated his origin story for the big screen was unlike anything fans had expected. Tobey Maguire was perfect for the role and he captured an honest look at both Peter Parker and Spider-Man.
Sam Rami is an amazing filmmaker with such creative talent. How the movie blends action, humor, and drama works mostly well together. Some aspects do not hold up as well as they did before. There are definitely moments that are cheesy and dated. The shifting from back and forth with the superhero action and the more dramatic scenes can feel uneven at times.
Luckily, 'Spider-Man (2002)' has an entertaining story, intense action, and tons of awesomeness that overshadow its flaws.
5. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Sony Pictures’ third attempt at capturing the character of Spider-Man, this time collaborating with Marvel Studios, 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' does as much as it can to please both spidey-fans and MCU fans, and it does a good job.
Tom Holland is another perfect actor to portray the character; as a younger Peter Parker. Michael Keaton is really good as The Vulture, who makes for a redeeming villain. The character stands out as one of the best villains in the MCU. Robert Downey Jr. gives a worthy appearance as Iron Man, although he is overshadowed by the many other supporting characters here; like Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Jon Faverau, and Laura Harrier.
It’s fun, exciting, and (somewhat) relatable for teens. The humor works, although at times it falls flat. The director (Jon Watts) and the writers draw a lot of inspiration from John Hughes with the film’s High School element, and It works for this movie, but that theme has been recycled so many times that it becomes tiring.
4. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
A superhero movie with a mix of summer comedy fun, 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' exists to entertain the hell out of audiences. It’s fast, wild, funny, and just a pleasure to watch.
Mysterio is not a very compelling villain, he comes off as a cry baby rather than menacing. Samuel L. Jackson makes a fan pleasing appearance, as well as a few other guest stars. The visual effects have never been better, and it’s action sequences are insanely good.
This is a better movie than Homecoming, as it has more of everything; it's exciting, funny, romantic, and active. The switches between comic book blockbuster and teen rom-com fits and adjusts well to the plot. Spider-Man: Far From Home is the perfect summer movie.
3. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
The most anticipated movie of the year is now in theaters, and it is breaking a ton of box office records during COVID. With all the secrecies and speculation about 'Spider-Man: No Way Home, everyone is loving it.
While it starts off rough in the first act, it delivers everything that fans could want from a Spider-Man movie. Treating fans of the original with the appearances of Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin, while also adding Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as they reprise their Spider-Man roles, is the best holiday present that spider-fans could receive.
(Partially) similar to Avengers: Endgame, No Way Home will make you laugh, cheer, and cry. The emotion runs higher than the previous films, as well as the endless fan service. Tobey and Andrew are fantastic, especially Andrew Garfield who almost steals the last act of the movie. Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) giving a brief cameo was surprising.
The finale leaves the viewer with many questions as to what’s next for Peter Parker/Spider-Man, but it does hint at a new beginning for the character.
2. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018)
In 2018, Spider fans were in for a special holiday treat when 'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse' hit theaters. A movie that had little to no expectations, turned into what it now considered a masterpiece.
Focused thoroughly on Miles Morales, Into The Spider-Verse offers fans the chance to witness a new Spider-Man story. This film tackles an abundance of subjects while remaining true to its source material. The entire movie is what a breath of fresh air truly is. New characters, story lines, references, and filmmaking. It’s hilarious, innovating, inclusive, bright, emotional, and exciting.
The performances are amazing, you instantly fall in love with these characters due to their realism. Miles is your average teen who wants so much for himself and others, yet is faced with the responsibility of being Spider-Man. The animation is vivid and eyegasmic. It’s messages about responsibility, and its impact on telling new stories that can lead to a much bigger future for superhero movies.
1. Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Two years after the success of the first, Sam Rami came back to direct 'Spider-Man 2' and give us even more from the web slinger. It is also one of the few sequels that improve upon its predecessor. While it is fun, humorous, and intense, 'Spider-Man 2' adds a deep conversation about responsibility and life decisions.
A new supervillain, Doctor Octopus, becomes the newest threat against Spider-Man. Although Spider-Man needs to stop Doctor Octopus before his plans destroy the city, Peter Parker must come to terms with himself and decide whether to choose himself or the people. Spider-Man 2 offers plenty of action, comedy, and style for many to enjoy, yet it never interferes with telling an important story about the choices we make in life and how being the hero takes immense bravery and strength even if it means letting go of your wants and desires.
'Spider-Man 2' may just be the most mature superhero movie, right behind ‘The Dark Knight’, that will remain relevant for years to come.
